About Annandale
|
Annandale Military Academy is the fictitious school which provides the setting for the Thaumaturge of Annandale Series: Volume I, Rough Magicke, Volume II, Like a Noise in Dreams, and a contemplated Volume III. Originally published in print by Unlimited Publishing in 2005 and 2015, the novels are now (2020) available in revised form from The Marmont Press on Amazon Kindle.
The main purpose of this site is to provide background information, such as a Campus Map for AMA itself as well as for Walsingham College at Oxford, explanations of some of the technical terms and campus slang used in the book, and a chart of Jonathan Mears' genealogy. The County of Wabana and the town of Annandale were the Hoosier author Meredith Nicholson’s revisions of Marshall County, Indiana, and the town of Culver, in his novels The House of a Thousand Candles (Grosset & Dunlap, 1905) and Rosalind at Redgate (1907). I have taken the liberty of replacing Nicholson’s girls school (St. Agatha’s) with a military academy in closer keeping with the real town’s most famous institution. The former book also introduced the eccentric early citizen, John Marshall Glenarm. In keeping with the long tradition of designing ideal schools, the Chapel pages actually are pretty much just what they look like. The English Department may follow . . . And there's a page about the author, with an interview and a c.v. |
